Sand, shingle and stone beach looking out across Lee Bay

Sandy Cove (Beach), or ‘the bathing beach’ as it is known locally, is a pretty sand, shingle and stone beach near Bull Point which is the north western point of Devon. Just west of Lee Bay Beach on the western side of Lee Bay, Sandy Cove (Beach) is reminiscent of the much photographed Broadsands Beach near Combe Martin. Access to Sandy Cove (Beach) is by very steep steps or the coastline at low tide.

Location of Sandy Cove (Beach)

Bull Point and Bull Point Lighthouse are at the north western tip of Devon. The super popular Atlantic facing sand beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton are to the south. A number of exceptionally pretty, small sand, stone and rock beaches line the coast to the east. Sandy Cove (Beach) is one of the prettiest and is situated on the western side of Lee Bay.

Directions to, and parking at, Sandy Cove (Beach)

If you’re coming by car, head for Woolacombe or Ilfracombe. Skinny country lanes run from both seaside resorts to Lee.

There’s a small car park on the edge of the village by The Grampus pub. Charges apply. Wander down to Lee Bay, Lee Bay Beach and Sandy Cove (Beach).

Alternatively, there’s a larger car park pretty much behind the beach.

If you’re coming on foot, follow the South West Coast Path from Woolacombe or Ilfracombe. The coastal walk from Woolacombe via Bull Point and Bull Point Lighthouse is superb.

Sandy Cove (Beach)

Lee Bay is a relatively remote bay on the north western coast of Devon. It’s lined with sand, shingle, stone and rock beaches. Sandy Cove (Beach) is on the western side of the bay.

‘Lee Bay, Sandy Cove, Cliffe Gardens. Lee bay [sic] is very sheltered and at low tide reveals fantastic rock pools and a sandy beach. On the far side of the beach it is possible to walk through the Morte-slate cliffs along a path and steps cut in to the rock. This path leads to Sandy Cove, or ‘the bathing beach’ as it is known locally. From the far side of the beach, steep steps lead to the cliff top where you can pick up the South West Coast Path - turning right to Bull Point and Mortehoe or left to complete a circular walk back down to Lee. Taking the route back towards Lee will lead you past Cliffe Gardens which are a real hidden treasure.’ (Source: information board on site)
