Watermouth Cove (Beach), Combe Martin, Exmoor National Park
Famous Westcountry view and beauty spot
One of the most photographed beaches in this section of the Westcountry, Watermouth Cove (Beach) is more of beauty spot than a beach for holidaymakers. If you're looking for the latter, try Broadsands Beach and Combe Martin Beach in the local area.
Location of Watermouth Cove (Beach)
Watermouth Cove (Beach) is located on the North Devon coast by the borders of Exmoor National Park and the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Watermouth Castle, Watermouth Cove Holiday Park and Watermouth Valley Camping Park sit behind the beach. The popular Exmoor gateway village Combe Martin is to the east.
We've positioned Watermouth Cove (Beach) on Google maps. Zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.
Directions to, and parking at, Watermouth Cove (Beach)
The cove is on your doorstep if you're staying at one of the many holiday parks and campsites at Watermouth.
If you're visiting Watermouth Castle, pop across the road to experience Watermouth Cove (Beach).
If you're coming from Combe Martin, use the car parking area behind the main beach in the village. Follow the South West Coast Path west behind Combe Martin Newbury Beach and then above Sandy Bay and Golden Cove until you come to Broadsands Beach. Continue to Watermouth Cove (Beach).
If you're coming from Ilfracombe, use one of the car parks on the eastern side of Ilfracombe or at Hele and then follow the South West Coast Path to Watermouth Cove (Beach).
Watermouth Cove (Beach)
A rocky inlet runs pretty much east/west on the North Devon coast at Watermouth. This inlet forms a natural harbour and cove. At low tide, Watermouth Cove (Beach) stretches all the way to the mouth of the inlet.
Watermouth Cove (Beach) is shingle and sand at low tide.
It's a working harbour so we'd recommend visiting the area for its views. If you're looking for a holiday beach, try Broadsands Beach and Combe Martin Beach in the local area.
Watermouth Cove (Beach) views
We'd recommend two viewpoints.
First, walk the path that runs along The Warren which is the arm of rock shielding harbour and cove from the Bristol Channel. The Warren takes you to Sexton's Burrow. There are super views over Watermouth Cove (Beach).
Second, follow the South West Coast Path to Widemouth Head. The view east is the classic captured in many travel guides and magazines. Little Hangman, Great Hangman and Exmoor National Park's famous cliffs complete the view behind. On clear days, you'll see the South Wales coast to the north across the Bristol Channel.
